Title: Product Owner - Insurance
Location: Durham, NC (Hybrid, 3 days onsite per week)
Type: FTE, Direct Hire
Salary Range: $115,000-130,000k, plus Bonus & Benefits

Our leading Insurance client is seeking a talented Product Owner. In this role, you will work closely with the Product Manager, Engineering Director, Business Partners, and end-users to gather and transform business requirements into detailed specifications relating to Policy Administration platform development.

This will suit someone who:

  • Has 1+ years experience as a hands-on Agile Product Owner.
  • A previous background as either a BA, BSA, Scrum Master or IT PM, etc.
  • Has knowledge of the Insurance sector.
  • Has experience working in smaller environments (<500 Headcount) where priorities can often change regularly.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Engage with business and technology stakeholders to translate their ideas into development user stories, ensuring clear and actionable requirements.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to less experienced colleagues, assigning tasks and reviewing their work as necessary.
  • Assist department managers or directors in developing and refining processes and standards.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with users and stakeholders, particularly on the Insurance side of the house, to thoroughly understand their workflows and requirements.
  • Draft epics and present them to stakeholders, create test plans, and work with Engineering Directors/Managers to ensure timely delivery.
  • Write user stories, collaborate with sprint teams to refine these stories, and maintain a refined backlog.
  • Assist in writing acceptance criteria and test cases, ensuring high-quality standards and comprehensive test coverage.
  • Actively participate in Scrum events, providing clarity on requirements and priorities to the teams.

Skills Needed:

  • 3+ years as a Senior/Lead Business Systems Analyst or Product Owner in a Scrum or SAFe environment.
  • Strong understanding and passion for Agile methodologies, product management, and incremental delivery.
  • Knowledge of the Insurance sector, and the systems/platforms used is highly desired
  • Proficient in writing user stories that focus on business value
  • Experience interfacing with business stakeholders and a deep understanding of business processes and user workflows.
  • Highly motivated self-starter with the ability to build relationships and drive initiatives forward.
  • Analytical & Detail-oriented, able to handle basic statistical/numerical conversations with end-users relating to Insurance Policies.
