Position Overview
The Property Claims Adjuster is responsible for managing property insurance claims, including coordinating with independent adjusters to investigate, negotiate, and resolve claims within established authority limits. This role involves evaluating property losses, identifying potential fraud or arson, and effectively handling litigated claims. The examiner ensures compliance with company policies and regulatory standards while maintaining strong relationships with agents, policyholders, and third-party vendors. There may also be opportunities to manage claims in other areas, such as casualty or automobile.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct comprehensive investigations to assess property damage and determine coverage eligibility.
Oversee independent adjusters and appraisers to ensure quality and cost control.
Evaluate large-loss claims, prepare detailed reports, and recommend settlement strategies.
Maintain accurate reserves and ensure timely resolution of claims.
Identify and escalate suspicious claims, collaborating with legal and underwriting teams when necessary.
Analyze claims data to detect trends, mitigate risks, and recommend process improvements.
Provide exceptional customer service, maintaining positive relationships with agents and policyholders.
Collaborate with legal counsel on claims in litigation or those involving coverage disputes.
Mentor junior claims staff and contribute to departmental training and development.
Qualifications
Minimum of 5 years of property claims experience (commercial or homeowners), including large-loss and litigation management.
Proven ability to detect fraud and manage complex investigations.
Industry certifications (e.g., AIC, CPCU) preferred.
Strong negotiation and analytical skills with a focus on fair claim settlements.
Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities.
In-depth knowledge of property insurance policies, legal principles, and regulatory requirements.
