Overview:
The Senior Director of Investments will play a critical role in managing the investment portfolio across both U.S. direct operations and offshore entities. This individual will be responsible for developing and implementing strategic investment policies, overseeing portfolio performance, and ensuring alignment with risk tolerance, governance, and regulatory requirements.
Responsibilities:
- Build strong relationships with senior leadership, portfolio managers, and third-party asset managers to facilitate active portfolio management and oversight.
- Monitor and analyze investment portfolios to enhance positioning and support organizational objectives.
- Provide independent oversight on third-party investment decisions, performance, and fees.
- Co-develop investment guidelines in alignment with corporate objectives, treaty requirements, and regulatory standards.
- Assess investment managers' performance, risk, and return regularly.
- Evaluate asset valuations and ratings considering market conditions and asset-specific features.
- Assess complex investment strategies and communicate findings, proposing alternative solutions when necessary.
- Collaborate across functional areas to provide investment-related data and insights.
- Research and evaluate both new and existing portfolio managers.
- Support regulatory filings, management reporting, and business partner communications.
- Complete ad hoc projects and special assignments as needed.
Required:
- A qualification from a recognized institution or professional body (e.g., CFA).
- 8+ years of experience in insurance asset management with a background in credit investing.
- Experience with private asset origination and alternative asset strategies.
- Understanding of insurance investment accounting, including GAAP/STAT principles.
- Self-starter with confidence, patience, maturity, and strategic thinking to partner effectively with asset managers.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
- High attention to detail with strong analytical skills.
- Ability to thrive in a lean team environment, often under pressure.
- Excellent work ethic, intellectual curiosity, sound judgment, and a positive attitude.
- Strong technical skills, including advanced Excel and Bloomberg proficiency; experience with Clearwater is a plus.
