Job Summary:
We are a Brokerage General Agency seeking an experienced life insurance underwriter with exceptional critical thinking and negotiation skills as well as the ability to build strong relationships with clients, agents, sales partners, and carrier underwriters. This individual will work closely and collaborate with the Director of Risk Appraisal in the promotion of Risk Differentiation Underwriting Strategies (RDU) to favorably position client profiles based on size, producer criteria, and case design. An essential skillset for this role is to understand and demonstrate the connection between underwriting, product and the sales process. You will work directly with our sales team from the time of a potential opportunity through placement of a case. This position has a direct impacting on the growth of the company and its entities, as well as impact the client's ability to secure coverage with the right carrier at the right premium based on their unique medical history profile as learned via consultation with the client, producer, and client's medical team.
Job Functions
- Reviews insurance case files from case management team, as applicable
- Reviews insurance case files from SPG advisors and clients
- Summarizes, organizes, and presents case files to home office underwriters
- Communicates and negotiates with home office underwriters
- Communicates with proposed insured and their team of physicians, as necessary
- Supports case management staff on select aspects of risk selection
- Collaborates and partners with sales team and broker to understand the case design and client needs
- Participates in presentations to prospective and existing clients, both individual and corporate
- Responsible for all "quick quote" and "summary" submissions to insurance carrier
- Conducts educational workshops for SPG staff on risk selection topics
- Attends and participates in sales meetings, as necessary
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree is required
- Minimum of 8-10 years of Life underwriting experience required
- Minimum 6 years of brokerage life underwriting experience required
- Ability to successfully consult and negotiate with clients, carrier executives, and co-workers
- Understand, analyze, and translate medical reports, terminology, and assessments and apply it to industry risk issues
- Is able to work with deadlines in a high-pressure environment
- As this is a remote position, candidate Must be a self-starter and be able to work in a collaborative team environment
Bonus:
You may receive a discretionary first year bonus based on company performance. After the first year, you are eligible to receive an increasing production bonus based on individual production and company performance.
